VanEck Rare Earth and Strategic Metals ETF

Rare earths and the strategic metals behind magnets, batteries and electronics are the theme here, and this is one of the few funds targeting them directly. It tracks the MarketVector (formerly MVIS) Global Rare Earth/Strategic Metals Index, holding producers, refiners and recyclers worldwide, with positions such as MP Materials, Lynas, Albemarle and China Northern Rare Earth. VanEck launched it in 2010. The appeal is geopolitical: China dominates rare-earth mining and processing, so any push by Western governments to build independent supply chains, or any threat by Beijing to restrict exports, sends these stocks moving. That also makes REMX volatile and policy-driven, prone to sharp rallies on supply-scare headlines and long droughts in between. It is a concentrated bet on a small but strategically important corner of the mining world.
