Robotics and artificial intelligence are the single theme BOTZ is built around. The fund holds a concentrated basket of companies tied to industrial automation, autonomous machinery and AI, following the Indxx Global Robotics & Artificial Intelligence Thematic Index. Global X launched it in 2016, and the portfolio is global by design, mixing U.S. chipmakers with Japanese automation specialists like Fanuc and Keyence and European names such as ABB. It holds only a few dozen positions, so a handful of large weights drive much of the performance, and the fund tends to swing harder than a broad tech index. Investors buy it as a focused bet that automation and machine intelligence will keep taking share of the economy, accepting the concentration and higher fee that come with a thematic fund rather than a broad market one.
