About iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF
When US regulators finally cleared spot bitcoin ETFs in January 2024, BlackRock's entry became the runaway winner. IBIT holds actual bitcoin, with Coinbase serving as custodian, and each share is a simple claim on the fund's holdings, so its price moves with bitcoin minus a small fee. That structure lets ordinary brokerage and retirement accounts own bitcoin without wallets, private keys or a crypto exchange. It gathered assets faster than almost any fund in history, quickly becoming the largest of the spot bitcoin ETFs and pulling in tens of billions of dollars. What buyers get is pure, unhedged exposure to bitcoin's price, with all the volatility that implies: the fund can swing violently, and it carries none of the diversification of a stock or bond fund. It is a single-asset wrapper, nothing more.
On MyRWA, IBIT trades tokenized across 4 on-chain venues - see the listings below.
