About Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund
Healthcare is the S&P 500's most defensive large sector, and XLV is the default instrument for owning it whole. State Street's Health Care Select Sector SPDR tracks the Health Care Select Sector Index, bundling the index's pharma giants, health insurers, device makers and biotech into one cap-weighted basket led by names like Eli Lilly, UnitedHealth and Johnson & Johnson. The mix gives it a split personality: steady demand for drugs and care cushions recessions, while drug-pricing politics and patent cliffs supply the risk. Alive since December 1998 as one of the original Select Sector SPDRs, it holds tens of billions in assets, trades with institutional depth and costs about 0.09 percent a year. Portfolio managers rotate through it around elections and rate cycles; long-term holders keep it as the ballast sector.
On MyRWA, XLV trades tokenized across 2 on-chain venues - see the listings below.
