Tower Semiconductor

Not every chip foundry chases the smallest, fastest transistors. Tower Semiconductor, an Israeli company founded in 1993, specializes in analog and specialty processes instead: radio-frequency, power management, image sensors, silicon photonics and other technologies where mature nodes and custom recipes matter more than raw density. That focus makes it a supplier to customers building sensors, wireless parts and industrial chips rather than the latest processors. Intel agreed to buy Tower for about 5.4 billion dollars, but the deal collapsed in 2023 after failing to win Chinese regulatory approval, and Tower stayed independent. The two later struck a manufacturing arrangement instead. Based in Migdal Haemek, Tower runs fabs in Israel, the United States and Japan, and its results track demand in the analog and specialty end of the chip market rather than the leading-edge race.
