Most uranium mined in the United States in recent years has come from Energy Fuels. The Colorado-based company operates the White Mesa Mill in Utah, the country's only conventional uranium mill still running, where it processes ore into the yellowcake that fuels nuclear reactors. It also holds mines including the Pinyon Plain project near the Grand Canyon. More recently it has pushed into rare-earth elements, using the same mill to produce separated rare-earth oxides that feed the magnets in electric motors and defense hardware, positioning itself as a would-be link in a domestic critical-minerals supply chain. Because it produces little when prices are low and ramps up when they rise, the stock swings hard with uranium prices and, increasingly, with US policy to cut reliance on foreign uranium and Chinese rare earths.
