USA Rare Earth is a bet that America wants to stop buying its magnets from China. The company is building a domestic supply chain for rare-earth elements and the permanent magnets made from them, the kind that spin inside electric-vehicle motors, wind turbines and guided weapons. Its focus leans toward the heavy rare earths that are hardest to source outside China, and it is standing up magnet manufacturing in Stillwater, Oklahoma to serve defense, automotive and electronics customers. Formed in 2019, it reached the public market through a merger with a shell company rather than a traditional IPO. The stock trades as a policy play as much as an industrial one: its fortunes rise and fall with Washington's push to reshore critical-mineral production and with the tariffs and export controls that shape the magnet trade.
