First Majestic Silver

Silver is the whole thesis at First Majestic, more so than at most mining companies. The Vancouver-based miner runs operations in Mexico and Nevada, and it deliberately keeps a high share of revenue in silver rather than gold, which makes the stock a geared bet on the silver price: when silver rallies, earnings can move far more sharply than the metal itself. Founded in 2002 by Keith Neumeyer, it grew by buying and reviving Mexican mines such as San Dimas, Santa Elena and La Encantada, and added the Jerritt Canyon gold operation in Nevada. The company even sells minted bullion directly to retail buyers. The flip side of that concentration is volatility and exposure to Mexican mining taxes, energy costs and permitting, all of which can swing production and margins from year to year.
