Global X Silver Miners ETF

Silver miners tend to move more violently than silver itself, and SIL is the standard way to own the group. Global X's fund tracks the Solactive Global Silver Miners index, a market-cap-weighted basket of companies that mine silver or hold streaming rights to it, led by Wheaton Precious Metals, Pan American Silver and Coeur Mining. Because miners carry fixed costs, a rise in the silver price can lift their profits far more than proportionally, and a fall can do the reverse, which is why the fund tends to amplify moves in the metal. It is concentrated, with the top ten names making up roughly three-quarters of assets, so a few large producers drive most of the performance. Global X launched it in 2010. Investors use it as a geared bet on silver, precious-metals demand and inflation, accepting sharp swings in exchange.
