Plug Power

Plug Power built its business selling hydrogen fuel-cell systems that replace batteries in warehouse forklifts, winning big rollouts with Amazon and Walmart. From there it has tried to own the whole hydrogen chain, producing liquid green hydrogen at its own plants, building fueling stations, and making the electrolyzers that split water into fuel. The pitch is a bet that clean hydrogen becomes a real industrial market. The problem is money: Plug has burned cash for years, posts steep losses, and has leaned on stock sales and government support to keep going, so the shares swing on financing news and policy as much as on orders. Founded in 1997 and based near Albany, New York, it remains one of the most watched and most volatile names in the energy-transition trade.
