The company sells into research labs and product development, so its revenue tracks how much its customers spend on designing the next generation of technology rather than on volume production. Headquartered in Santa Rosa, California, Keysight has shifted its mix toward software and recurring services, which carry higher margins and smooth the hardware cycle. Its edge is being embedded early in customers' design work, where switching to a rival's instruments is disruptive and rare.
