iShares Core S&P Total US Stock Market ETF

Almost every US-listed stock sits inside ITOT, which is BlackRock's answer to Vanguard's total-market fund. It tracks the S&P Total Market Index, reaching from mega-caps down through small and micro caps, so a single share covers the whole domestic equity market rather than just the S&P 500. BlackRock launched it in 2004 and later cut the fee to a few basis points as part of its low-cost Core range, making it one of the cheapest ways to own the entire market. Like any cap-weighted total-market fund, its performance is driven by the largest technology companies at the top, with thousands of smaller names contributing little individually. Investors use it as a foundational, buy-and-hold core holding, often the only US equity fund they need, and it is essentially interchangeable with rivals from Vanguard and Schwab.
