Grab Holdings

Across Southeast Asia, Grab runs the kind of everything app that Western users associate with several separate services. Started in 2012 as a ride-hailing outfit in Malaysia and now based in Singapore, it lets people book rides, order food and groceries, and pay for it all through a single platform spanning eight countries. Delivery and mobility are the volume businesses, but Grab has pushed hard into financial services: digital payments, lending and a banking arm aimed at a region where many people never had a bank account. Scale and local knowledge are its defense against global rivals, though profitability came late after years of subsidies and heavy competition. Grab went public in 2021 through one of the largest SPAC mergers ever, and its shares move on growth, margins and progress toward sustained profit.
