iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ETF

Buying emerging-market stocks in a single trade has been possible through EEM since 2003, making it one of the oldest such funds. It tracks the MSCI Emerging Markets Index, spreading across China, Taiwan, India, South Korea and Brazil, with large technology and financial companies like TSMC, Tencent and Samsung near the top. BlackRock runs it. Its quirk is that a cheaper, broader sibling, IEMG, now exists and has drawn most buy-and-hold money; EEM survives because its deep liquidity and active options market make it the preferred vehicle for traders and institutions wanting fast, tactical emerging-market exposure. The fee is higher than IEMG's, which is the price of that liquidity. Returns hinge heavily on China, the largest country weight, and on the dollar, since a strong greenback tends to pressure emerging-market assets.
