iShares Core S&P 500 ETF

Among the giant funds tracking the S&P 500, IVV is BlackRock's, sitting alongside State Street's SPY and Vanguard's VOO as one of the largest ETFs in the world. It holds the 500 leading US companies weighted by market value, which in practice means a portfolio led by Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia and the other mega-caps that dominate the index. BlackRock launched it in 2000 and has cut the fee to three basis points, low enough that cost is no longer a real differentiator against its rivals. Investors use it as a core large-cap US holding, a proxy for the American stock market itself, and the default building block of countless portfolios and retirement accounts. Its returns are the S&P 500's, so it rises and falls with corporate America's biggest and most profitable names.
