Global X Copper Miners

This fund is a direct bet on the companies that dig copper out of the ground, the metal that wires buildings, motors and increasingly power grids and electric cars. It tracks the Solactive Global Copper Miners Total Return Index, holding around forty producers worldwide, with names such as Teck Resources, BHP, Antofagasta and First Quantum near the top. Global X, the New York thematic-ETF shop owned by Korea's Mirae Asset, launched it in April 2010 and charges 0.65%. Because miners carry operating and financial gearing to the copper price, COPX tends to swing harder than copper itself, rising more in a boom and falling more in a bust. That makes it a favorite of investors playing the electrification and green-energy demand story, or simply looking for a leveraged way to trade the copper cycle.
