Global X Defense Tech ETF

Defense budgets across the United States and NATO have climbed since 2022, and this fund is built to ride that spending. It follows the Global X Defense Tech Index, holding contractors and technology suppliers that build weapons systems, aircraft, cybersecurity and military software; top positions include RTX, General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Palantir. Global X launched it in September 2023, catching a wave of investor interest as wars in Ukraine and the Middle East pushed governments to rearm, and it charges 0.50%. Unlike a broad industrials fund, SHLD concentrates in the prime defense names and their newer software-driven challengers, so its fortunes track government procurement and geopolitical tension more than the general economy. Buyers treat it as a focused wager on sustained higher military outlays rather than a diversified equity holding.
