Unlike most software firms that build from scratch, Bending Spoons grows by buying. The Milan company acquires established apps and services with proven demand, then cuts costs and rebuilds them with its own engineers to widen margins. Its portfolio has included names like Evernote, Meetup, WeTransfer and the Brightcove video platform, bought and folded into a single operating machine. The model resembles a private-equity roll-up run by product people rather than financiers: pay for something with paying users, strip out overhead, raise prices or efficiency, repeat. That approach draws criticism, since acquisitions are often followed by steep layoffs. The company listed publicly in July 2026, giving outside investors their first real look at whether serial app acquisition can compound the way its founders claim. Founded in 2013, it grew for years with little outside attention before the deals got big.
