iShares Core US Aggregate Bond ETF

For a single-ticket stake in the US investment-grade bond market, AGG is one of the two default choices. It tracks the Bloomberg US Aggregate Bond Index, the broad benchmark most professionals measure themselves against, which means the fund holds thousands of Treasuries, agency mortgage-backed securities and high-grade corporate bonds in roughly the weights they exist in the market. BlackRock launched it in 2003, and it has grown into one of the largest bond funds anywhere. Investors use it as the core fixed-income anchor of a portfolio: a diversified, mostly high-quality holding that pays monthly income and, in theory, cushions stock declines. Its main risk is interest rates, as 2022 made painfully clear when rising yields handed the fund one of its worst years ever. The expense ratio is a rounding error.
