Owning the broad U.S. stock market cheaply is the entire pitch here. USPX tracks the Morningstar US Target Market Exposure Index, a basket of large and mid-sized American companies covering roughly the top 85% of the market by float-adjusted value, and weights them by market capitalization. Franklin Templeton runs it as a plain-vanilla index fund with one of the lowest expense ratios in its category, which is how it competes against far bigger rivals from Vanguard and BlackRock. There is no stock-picking and no factor tilt; the fund simply holds what the index holds, so returns mirror the U.S. equity market minus a sliver of fees. Investors use it as a core holding, the foundation a portfolio gets built around before adding more specialized positions on top. It launched in 2016.
