Grand Theft Auto alone makes Take-Two one of the most valuable names in video games. The New York company owns Rockstar Games, the studio behind Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, plus 2K, whose NBA 2K and other sports and shooter franchises sell every year. In 2022 it bought mobile developer Zynga, adding casual games and a large advertising business to a catalog that had been mostly console and PC. The model is lumpy: a single Rockstar release can define a fiscal year, so investors watch the calendar closely, and the long-delayed Grand Theft Auto VI has become one of the most anticipated launches in entertainment. Founded in 1993, Take-Two competes with Electronic Arts and Microsoft's Activision Blizzard for the biggest franchises and for players' time.
