About Global X NASDAQ 100 Covered Call ETF
High, steady monthly income is the whole point of QYLD. The fund owns the stocks of the Nasdaq-100 and then sells call options against the entire index every month, collecting the premiums and paying most of them out to shareholders, a strategy known as buy-writing that follows a Cboe BuyWrite benchmark. That trade turns the volatility of big tech into a high monthly distribution, often around a double-digit yield, which is what draws income investors. The catch is baked into the design: selling calls caps how much the fund can gain when the Nasdaq rallies, so it tends to lag a plain index fund in strong up markets while still taking most of the losses in downturns. Global X launched it in 2013. It is built for investors who prize steady cash flow over long-term growth, not those chasing the index's full upside.
