Nokia

Nokia is a Finnish company with two lives. Most of the world remembers it for the indestructible mobile phones it sold by the hundreds of millions in the 2000s, but it exited handsets long ago and today builds the network equipment that carriers use to run mobile and fixed broadband. It is one of the main global suppliers of 5G radio gear, competing with Ericsson and, where politics permit, Huawei, and it sells to the telecom operators that form the backbone of modern connectivity. The company traces its roots to a pulp mill founded in 1865 and is based in Espoo, near Helsinki, with shares that trade in both Helsinki and New York. As an infrastructure vendor, Nokia lives on carrier capital-spending cycles, which have been uneven, and on its ability to win the 5G and coming 6G contracts that define the industry.
