When HIVE listed in Vancouver in 2017, it became the first cryptocurrency miner to trade on a public exchange. It has stayed a step ahead of the pack on energy, running its mining data centers on hydro and other green power in Canada, Sweden and Iceland, which helps blunt criticism of the industry's carbon footprint. The company mines bitcoin and has historically mined other coins, holding much of its output on the balance sheet. It later dropped 'Blockchain' from its name in favor of 'Digital Technologies' and has begun renting out GPU capacity for AI and high-performance computing. Headquartered in Vancouver, HIVE remains a smaller miner whose shares trade largely as a proxy for the coins it produces and for sentiment across the crypto market.
