About Franklin Responsibly Sourced Gold ETF
Gold bars back FGDL, but with a sourcing standard attached. The fund holds physical gold stored in a London vault and tracks the metal's price, less its expenses, like other bullion ETFs; the difference is that the gold comes only from LBMA-accredited refiners meeting the association's Responsible Gold Guidance, rules meant to keep out metal tied to money laundering, conflict or human-rights abuses. Franklin Templeton launched it in 2022, competing on cost with a low fee against the giant established gold funds. Each share represents a claim on allocated gold rather than a futures position, so it follows spot prices closely. Investors use it the way they use any gold ETF, as an inflation hedge, a safe haven or a portfolio diversifier, with the added appeal of a documented, ethically sourced supply chain for buyers who care about provenance.
