About Listed Funds Trust Wahed FTSE USA Shariah ETF
Muslim investors who want broad US stock exposure without violating Islamic law are the audience here. HLAL tracks the FTSE USA Shariah Index, a market-cap-weighted benchmark of American companies screened by Shariah principles. That screen removes whole sectors, conventional banks and insurers, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, weapons, and pork, and applies financial-ratio tests that exclude firms carrying too much debt or earning too much interest income. Because banks are barred, the fund tilts heavily toward technology and healthcare and looks quite different from the S&P 500. Wahed Invest, a fintech built around halal investing, launched the fund in July 2019 and screens the holdings for compliance. It gives observant investors a single, low-maintenance way to own US equities that a Shariah board has vetted, rather than picking individual compliant stocks themselves.
