About PIMCO 0-5 Year High Yield Corporate Bond Index ETF
PIMCO built this fund around the short end of the junk-bond market, holding high-yield corporate bonds with five years or less to maturity. It tracks the ICE BofA 0-5 Year US High Yield Constrained Index, capping any single issuer so no one borrower dominates. Keeping maturities short is the whole idea: the portfolio earns most of the fat coupon that high-yield debt pays while carrying far less interest-rate sensitivity than a full-maturity junk fund, so its price swings less when rates move. Credit risk remains, since these are below-investment-grade companies that can default in a downturn. Income investors use it to harvest high-yield spreads with a shorter, steadier profile, and some park it as a higher-yielding step out from cash. PIMCO, one of the world's largest bond managers, has run it since 2011.
