About Valkyrie Bitcoin Miners ETF
Instead of holding bitcoin, WGMI holds the companies that produce it. The actively managed fund puts at least 80% of assets into firms earning most of their revenue from bitcoin mining or from selling the specialized chips, rigs and software miners depend on. Because miners run leveraged operations tied to the bitcoin price, their shares tend to swing even harder than the coin itself, making the fund a high-beta way to play crypto through the stock market. It launched in early 2022 under Valkyrie and now trades under the CoinShares name after that firm bought Valkyrie's fund business. The portfolio is concentrated in a couple dozen names, so a few large miners drive much of the performance. Buyers accept extreme volatility plus the added risk that mining economics, energy costs and network difficulty can squeeze margins even when bitcoin holds up.
