About iShares Global Timber & Forestry ETF
Forests, timberland and the mills that turn trees into lumber, pulp and packaging sit behind this iShares fund. It tracks the S&P Global Timber & Forestry Index, holding roughly the 25 largest listed companies across developed and emerging markets that own or manage forests, then rounding out to about 40 names. Weyerhaeuser, Brazil's Suzano and packaging group Mondi are among the biggest positions, so the basket leans toward paper, pulp and building materials rather than pure land ownership. BlackRock runs it at a 0.40% fee. Investors reach for WOOD as a play on housing demand, packaging volumes and the idea that standing timber is a real asset that grows in value literally as it grows. It is a narrow, cyclical bet, tied closely to construction and commodity prices.
