AB Ultra Short Income ETF

Actively managed rather than pinned to an index, YEAR is AllianceBernstein's take on where to keep money that is not quite cash. The managers buy investment-grade US government and corporate debt, holding the portfolio's average duration under a year so that rising rates do little damage. The aim is a yield above money-market funds and savings accounts while protecting principal, which suits investors sitting on cash they may need soon but want working harder. Being active, the team can shift between Treasuries and corporate credit as spreads and rates move, rather than mechanically holding whatever an index dictates. AllianceBernstein, a long-established fixed-income house, launched the fund in 2022 at a 0.25% expense ratio. It competes in the wave of ultra-short bond ETFs that drew heavy inflows once interest rates rose, offering a bit more yield than the safest T-bill funds in exchange for modest credit risk.
