iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF

Long-dated Treasury bonds are the purest bet on U.S. interest rates, and TLT is how most investors make it. BlackRock's iShares fund holds a basket of U.S. government bonds maturing in twenty years or more and tracks an ICE index of that segment. Because their cash flows stretch so far into the future, these bonds have very long duration, meaning their prices swing hard when rates change: a fund that soars when the Federal Reserve cuts can drop just as steeply when yields rise, as holders learned painfully in 2022. Investors buy it as a safe haven that often rallies when stocks crash, as a way to lock in yield, or as a direct wager that rates will fall. It pays monthly interest from the underlying coupons. Launched in 2002, it is one of the most heavily traded bond ETFs anywhere.
