About SP Funds S&P 500 Sharia ETF
Take the S&P 500, remove every company that fails an Islamic-finance screen, and you get something close to SPUS. It follows the S&P 500 Shariah Industry Exclusions Index, which throws out banks, insurers, alcohol, tobacco, gambling and defense, then drops firms carrying too much debt relative to their market value. What remains is roughly 200 of the original 500, weighted by size and heavy in technology and healthcare. SP Funds built it as the core US-equity holding for investors who follow Sharia, and at a 0.45% expense ratio it has grown into the largest fund in the family, with assets above $2 billion. The exclusions mean it can lead or lag the plain S&P 500 depending on whether financials are in or out of favor. It launched in 2019.
