VanEck Semiconductor ETF

The semiconductor industry, from chip designers to the machines that fabricate wafers, sits inside this VanEck fund. SMH tracks the MVIS US Listed Semiconductor 25 Index, a market-cap-weighted basket of the 25 largest chip companies trading on U.S. exchanges, which means Nvidia, TSMC's American listing, Broadcom and a handful of others carry outsized weight. That concentration is the point and the risk: the fund rises and falls with a small group of names at the center of artificial intelligence, data centers, phones and cars. It has become one of the most heavily traded ways to own the sector, favored by investors who want the whole chip supply chain in a single ticker rather than guessing which company wins. Because the top holdings are so large, SMH often moves almost in lockstep with Nvidia. It launched in its current VanEck form in 2011.
