For thirty years, SharpLink Gaming sold marketing services to sportsbooks and online casinos from its base in Minneapolis, running an affiliate network that steered bettors to its clients. In May 2025 it became something else entirely. The company adopted an Ethereum treasury strategy, raising hundreds of millions through a private placement and stock sales and pouring it into ETH, which it stakes to earn yield. That move made SharpLink one of the largest corporate holders of Ether in the world.

The pitch to shareholders is straightforward: buy the stock and get leveraged, publicly listed exposure to Ethereum plus staking rewards, without holding the token directly. The obvious flip side is that the shares now move with the price of ETH, so investors carry the crypto market's volatility along with the risk that the company keeps issuing new stock to buy more.
