Rather than the supercooled qubits its name suggests, Quantum Computing Inc builds machines from light. The Hoboken, New Jersey company designs integrated photonic chips and instruments that manipulate individual photons, pitching them as devices that run at room temperature and low power instead of inside the giant refrigerators most quantum hardware requires. Its lineup includes reservoir-computing processors aimed at AI workloads, single-photon detectors, quantum random number generators and a photonic vibrometer for remote sensing, plus a foundry to fabricate thin-film lithium niobate chips for outside customers. Revenue is tiny and the science is early, so the shares trade less on results than on the broader excitement around quantum technology, which has made them wildly volatile. Bulls see a cheap way to bet on photonics; skeptics point to years of losses and unproven demand for the products.
