Pinterest is a visual search and discovery site where people save images to themed boards while planning weddings, home projects, recipes and outfits. That planning mindset is the whole investment case: users arrive already looking for things to buy, which makes the platform valuable to advertisers even though it is far smaller than Meta or Google. Nearly all of Pinterest's revenue comes from advertising placed alongside those image feeds, and much of its recent effort has gone into making pins shoppable so a saved idea leads straight to a purchase. The audience skews heavily toward women and toward markets outside the United States, where each user is worth far less in ad dollars, so closing that gap is a major growth lever. Founded in 2010 and based in San Francisco, the company competes for the same ad budgets and attention as every other social platform.
