Extreme Networks

Extreme Networks competes in the enterprise networking market that Cisco and HPE's Aruba dominate, selling the wired switches and Wi-Fi access points that run corporate campuses, stadiums, hospitals and schools. Founded in 1996 in Silicon Valley and now run from Morrisville, North Carolina, it has grown partly through acquisitions, absorbing networking lines from Brocade, Avaya and Motorola. The pitch to customers is cloud-managed networking: hardware plus a software platform that handles configuration, analytics and security from one console, increasingly sold on subscription. That recurring software revenue is what investors watch, because it is steadier than one-off hardware sales tied to corporate refresh cycles. Extreme is the smaller challenger here, so it leans on service, price and a single management layer to win accounts the giants might overlook.
