About VanEck Oil Services ETF
The companies that drill wells and supply the oil industry's equipment and services - not the majors that sell the oil - are what OIH concentrates on. The fund tracks the MVIS US Listed Oil Services 25 Index, a compact group of the 25 largest U.S.-listed oilfield-services firms, names like SLB, Halliburton and Baker Hughes. VanEck runs it, and the lineage traces back to the Oil Service HOLDRS launched in 2001 before it converted to an ETF in 2011. Because the index caps membership at 25 and weights by size, the fund is top-heavy, with the biggest service providers dominating. Their earnings swing with drilling activity and oil prices, so OIH is more volatile than a broad energy fund and tends to amplify moves in crude. Investors use it as a high-beta play on the upstream capital-spending cycle.
