LightPath Technologies

Infrared lenses and precision optics are what LightPath Technologies makes. The company molds glass aspheric lenses, builds infrared and thermal-imaging assemblies and cameras, and produces its own chalcogenide glass, sold under the Black Diamond name, as a substitute for scarce germanium. Its parts end up in thermal cameras, industrial lasers, medical devices, defense optics and telecom gear.

Started in 1985 and based in Orlando, Florida, LightPath has been shifting from a components supplier toward higher-value engineered assemblies and finished imaging systems, aiming for fatter margins and closer customer relationships. Defense and industrial demand, plus efforts to design around germanium supply constraints, drive much of the story. It remains a small company, so individual contracts and program wins can move its results sharply from quarter to quarter.
