About The Kraft Heinz Company

The 2015 merger of Kraft and Heinz created one of the largest food companies in North America, orchestrated by Berkshire Hathaway and the private-equity firm 3G Capital. Its shelves of brands are household names: Heinz ketchup, Kraft cheese and macaroni, Oscar Mayer, Philadelphia, Jell-O, and more, mostly center-of-store packaged goods sold through supermarkets. The strategy leaned hard on cost cutting to lift margins, but it backfired when years of underinvestment left the brands struggling to grow, forcing a large writedown in 2019 that shook confidence in the whole approach. Since then management has worked to revive the portfolio and pay down debt while defending market share against cheaper private-label rivals and consumer tastes shifting toward fresher food. The company keeps co-headquarters in Chicago and Pittsburgh, and Berkshire Hathaway remains its largest shareholder.
