Hubbell

Founded in 1888 by Harvey Hubbell, the inventor of the pull-chain light socket and the detachable electrical plug, Hubbell has spent well over a century making the hardware that carries and controls electricity. Today its products fall into two camps: electrical items for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings, and utility gear for the grid, from insulators and connectors to the enclosures and metering that sit on distribution lines. The utility side has become the more compelling half, benefiting from grid upgrades, electrification, and utilities' need to replace aging equipment. Much of what Hubbell sells is unglamorous, specified into codes, and bought repeatedly, which gives the company steady, recurring demand and pricing power. It is based in Shelton, Connecticut, and has grown partly by acquiring smaller electrical and utility brands to fill out its shelves.
