Buying into SpaceX, OpenAI or other hot private companies is nearly impossible for ordinary investors, and Destiny Tech100 is built to change that. It is a closed-end fund that trades on the New York Stock Exchange like a stock while holding stakes in roughly two to three dozen late-stage private technology firms, acquired through secondary purchases and special-purpose vehicles. SpaceX is its largest position, alongside names like OpenAI, xAI, Anthropic and Databricks. The catch is structural: because the fund is one of the few easy ways to touch these companies, its share price has at times traded far above the stated value of its holdings, a premium that can evaporate. Managed by Destiny XYZ and launched in 2024, it offers rare public access to private-market winners, with the volatility and pricing quirks that come with a thin, hyped vehicle.
