Arqit Quantum

The fear that a future quantum computer could break today's encryption has created a market for quantum-safe security, and Arqit is one of its noisier names. The London company sells software that lets two devices generate matching symmetric encryption keys on demand, without sending the keys across a network where they could be intercepted, an approach it argues is simpler and stronger than the public-key systems in wide use. Founded in 2017 by David Williams and taken public on Nasdaq through a 2021 SPAC merger, Arqit initially tied its story to satellites before shifting to a pure software product delivered as a developer kit. The technology is real but early, revenue is minimal, and the company has faced skepticism about how quickly the market for its product will materialize. The shares are speculative and move on partnership announcements.
