About iShares Core S&P Small-Cap ETF

The S&P SmallCap 600 is the benchmark behind this iShares fund, and the choice of index is what sets it apart from rival small-cap products. Unlike the better-known Russell 2000, the S&P 600 screens its members for profitability before admitting them, so IJR holds smaller US companies that already earn money, a quality filter that has historically helped it edge out broader small-cap indexes. The roughly 600 holdings span industrials, financials, consumer, and other domestic sectors, weighted by market value, and they are more tied to the US economy than large caps with global sales. Investors use it for small-cap exposure inside a core allocation, betting that smaller firms can grow faster over time while accepting bigger swings. BlackRock launched IJR in 2000, and at 0.06% it is a cheap, liquid way to own the asset class.
