About iShares Expanded Tech-Software ETF
Software has its own dedicated benchmark, and IGV has tracked it since 2001. BlackRock's fund follows the S&P North American Expanded Technology Software Index, a market-cap-weighted group of US and Canadian software and interactive-media companies. Holdings run through the industry's heavyweights, Palo Alto Networks, Palantir, Microsoft, Oracle, Salesforce, ServiceNow and CrowdStrike, giving it a heavy tilt toward enterprise, cybersecurity and cloud names. Because it is weighted by size, the largest companies carry the most influence, though caps keep the very top from dominating entirely. As one of the oldest sector funds around, it has become a standard way to bet on software specifically rather than technology as a whole, separating high-margin, subscription-driven businesses from hardware and chips. Investors use it for concentrated growth exposure, accepting the sharper swings that come with a single high-valuation industry.
