Spun out of chipmaker Bitmain in 2021, Bitdeer earns money three ways from bitcoin mining. It mines for its own account, hosts machines for other miners in its data centers, and sells 'cloud hashrate' contracts that let customers rent mining power without owning hardware. Founder Jihan Wu is one of the industry's best-known figures, and the company's Bitmain heritage gives it an edge in designing its own mining rigs rather than buying them all. Bitdeer runs sites in the United States, Norway and Bhutan, and keeps its headquarters in Singapore with a US base in San Jose. Since 2023 it has been converting spare capacity toward AI cloud computing, partnering with Nvidia, a pivot many miners are attempting as they hunt for revenue less exposed to the bitcoin cycle.
