About CAD Coin
Canada lacks a dominant onchain dollar of its own, a gap CADC has worked to fill since PayTrie first issued it in 2021. Each token represents one Canadian dollar held in reserve, and any holder can redeem it one-for-one for CAD through the issuer, subject to identity checks. In October 2025 the Calgary startup Loon raised roughly 3 million dollars and acquired the token from PayTrie, positioning it as a regulated Canadian digital dollar; PayTrie, registered with FINTRAC as a money-services business, still offers access. The coin lives on Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum and Base, and has been used chiefly for remittances and as an on-ramp into Canadian-dollar liquidity. Its story is less about scale than about being one of the few credible loonie tokens in a market overwhelmingly denominated in US dollars.
