About Bitcoin USD

BtcUSD lets bitcoin holders unlock dollars without selling their coins. Built by Bifrost Network as part of its BTCFi service, the token is an over-collateralized dollar minted when users lock BTC and borrow against it, redeemable by repaying the debt and reclaiming the collateral through the protocol rather than any company. Bitcoin's relative steadiness against smaller crypto assets is pitched as making the backing sturdier than collateral drawn from more volatile tokens. It is built to travel, issued first on Bifrost and Base with the stated aim of moving across EVM chains and eventually Bitcoin layer-twos. There is no fiat in reserve and no issuer redemption desk; the peg holds through collateralization and liquidation mechanics common to onchain debt systems. BtcUSD is one of a wave of attempts to turn dormant bitcoin into productive collateral, giving long-term holders spending power while keeping their BTC exposure intact.
