Rugged computing for places a normal server would never survive is the whole point of One Stop Systems. The Escondido, California firm designs high-performance compute and storage hardware that goes into military aircraft, tanks, autonomous vehicles and trains, where it processes sensor data and runs AI and machine-learning workloads at the edge. Its systems pack GPUs, fast switch fabrics and flash storage into enclosures built to tolerate heat, shock and vibration. Much of the revenue is program-driven, tied to defense and industrial customers who need certified, long-life hardware rather than off-the-shelf boxes, which makes the order book lumpy and dependent on a handful of large contracts. The company went public in 2017 after nearly two decades of building custom systems for demanding buyers who care more about reliability than price.
