About Citrea USD
Bitcoin has never had a dollar to call its own, and Citrea USD is a direct attempt to supply one. Citrea is a zero-knowledge rollup that extends Bitcoin, and ctUSD is its native unit of account, issued by payments firm MoonPay and built on M0's stablecoin infrastructure. Each token is backed one-for-one by short-term US Treasuries and cash, and MoonPay leans on its existing money-transmitter licenses and card rails so users can buy or sell directly with Visa, Mastercard and popular wallets. Redemption runs through MoonPay at par and is open to retail rather than restricted to institutions, though availability is geofenced: the token reaches the US outside New York and many countries, but not Canada or the European Economic Area. The framing is compliance-forward, aligned with the US GENIUS Act, aimed at giving Bitcoin DeFi a single trusted dollar.
